Howaussie

My father loved learning. He never finished high school, and never went to university. He taught himself physics, chemistry, and mathematics. And although his life was short, he lived long enough to proudly see me graduate and work as an educator. I have been blessed with many opportunities, including being able to teach in Australia, my place of birth, and now the United States. My current work is in the area of critical literacy, professional development, and coaching. As I look at my life, immersed in education, and compare it to my father's, I am struck by our differing contexts and yet similar outcomes. I am intrigued by thinking and learning, what fosters it and what crushes it. I doubt that it can be institutionalized.
